Beastie Boys, originally, the Young Aborigines, first started as a hardcore punk group. As this New York City rock band switched over to a Hip Hop group, their roads to success were coming closer. As they gained more and more fame and allured a bigger and bigger audience, they became a famous group known for their lyrics, outrageous outfits, and their outstanding performances.
I enjoy the songs by the Beastie Boys because of their ability to rhyme with various beats. As simple as a guitar and drums were all they needed to make a song. A lot of new artists nowadays model after the Beastie Boys. Bands like Gym Class Heroes and N.E.R.D are great examples that portray rock and alternative to hip hop. From Beastie Boys’ outfits to their passion they portray in their music, I personally enjoy listening to their music to hype up. I also appreciate the titles they give to their albums. For example, I thought it was deep on how they named one of their albums “To the 5 Boroughs” after the September 11 attack.
“No Sleep til Brooklyn” was a popular hit. Even their music video was very funny and amusing to watch. As the music starts with the electric guitar to drums, the band shows how difficult things can be possible by spitting nice lines off of a rock beat. I feel as if the song was somehow a bridge from their rock-band-phase to their hip-hop-phase.
Even though this band were the prior ones to consider them “gangsters” and rap about violence, drugs, alcohol, and sex, they still managed to come out with great albums without worrying over the critics.
